It features a minimum tensile strength of 125 ksi and is frequently paired with ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts to bolt carbon steel pipelines.
- Grade B8 & B8M (Stainless Steel):
- B8 uses AISI 304 stainless steel.
- B8M incorporates AISI 316 stainless steel with added molybdenum, providing enhanced resistance against crevice corrosion and pitting in harsh environments.
- Both are typically solution treated for high oxidation and corrosion resistance.
- Grade B16 (Chrome-Moly-Vanadium): Explicitly engineered for ultra-high-temperature environments where standard low-alloy steels might suffer from mechanical creep.
- Grade B5 & B6 (Martensitic Stainless): Formulated with 12% to 13% chromium steel (such as AISI 410) to offer heavy-duty structural capabilities combined with good scaling resistance under heat.
Fastener Formats and Thread Configurations
- Configurations: Fasteners are most commonly specified and manufactured as fully threaded stud bolts or heavy hex bolts, but the standard also allows for custom bent bolts and double-ended rods.
- Thread Series: While national coarse (UNC) thread pitches are standard for small diameters, traditional high-pressure applications typically require a fixed 8 threads per inch (8 TPI) specification for any bolt diameter exceeding 1 inch.
