The A2-035 Lock Nut (most commonly referred to as a Half Nut, Thin Lock Nut, or Jam Nut) is a low-profile, light-duty internal thread metric fastener. The alpha-numeric designation "A2-035" explicitly defines its material composition and lower mechanical property threshold under international standards like ISO 3506-2:
"A2" indicates it is forged from Grade 304 austenitic stainless steel (18% Chromium, 8% Nickel).
"035" signifies a lower minimum tensile strength profile of 350 MPa (or 350 N/mm), which is characteristic of thin-type or non-load-bearing fasteners.
Because it is approximately half the thickness of a standard hex nut, it is used as a "jam nut" to lock a regular nut in place or in compact housings where space and clearance are extremely limited.
Key Features & Design
Low-Profile / Thin Sizing: Possesses a highly compact vertical thickness, making it ideal for tight-clearance assemblies and lightweight component frameworks.
"Jamming" Locking Mechanism: Frequently threaded onto a bolt directly behind a standard full-height nut (such as a DIN 934). When tightened against each other, the two nuts "jam" together, forcing the thread faces against one another to prevent loosening from moderate vibration.
Six-Sided Metric Profile: Styled with a classic hexagonal body for standard external tool mating with small metric wrenches or sockets.
Inherent Material Longevity: Built from Grade 304 stainless steel, offering an excellent economic barrier against moisture and everyday atmospheric rust without flaking.
Manufacturing & Dimensional Standards
A2-035 thin lock nuts are precision-machined to comply with widespread global low-profile specifications:
DIN 439 / DIN 439B: The most widely utilized German industrial standard for hexagonal thin nuts/jam nuts.
ISO 4035: The modern International Organization for Standardization equivalent for metric thin hex nuts.
Thread Tolerance Class: Formed with standard metric coarse thread pitches featuring a standard 6H internal thread tolerance class.
Mechanical Property Profile
Alloy Type: Austenitic Stainless Steel (Type 304 / 18-8 commercial grade).
Minimum Tensile Strength: 350 MPa.
Magnetic Property: Fully non-magnetic in its raw annealed state, though it can pick up trace magnetism during precise cold-threading operations.
Thermal Limits: Safely retains structural form and surface characteristics from sub-zero levels up to roughly 400C.
Target Applications & Industries
Due to its low-load capacity but excellent spatial versatility, the A2-035 thin nut is primarily used in:
Electronics & Control Panels: Securing small potentiometers, toggle switches, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and compact instrumentation enclosures.
Renewable Energy & Utilities: Clamping localized solar PV racking frames, light brackets, and EV charger outer structural casings.
HVAC & Piping Mounts: Used alongside standard hardware as a locking component on light-duty overhead brackets and ventilation duct tracks.
Light Manufacturing & Equipment: Assembling medical hardware, analytical instruments, and small automated processing machinery where space is limited.
